I became a member of the National Childbirth Trust when my eldest child was a baby.

I attended lots of their groups and made lots of friends.

It didn't take long for me to join the committee of the local branch when they put a an appeal out for volunteers.

I helped to organise and run the "Nearly New Sales" twice a year, which attracted hundreds of people to each event, allowing parents to buy second hand clothes, toys and equipment at a fraction of the cost of new.

We also held regular "pudding clubs", taking it in turns to host in our own homes. We shared puddings, parenting woes and supported each other.

We also facilitated various playgroups across Bassetlaw.

When the local branch needed a new Chair, I was voted in as Chair and held the position for a year.

I also attended the national conference with a group of other Mums to learn more about the trust and what other branches were doing to help support their local parents.

I enjoyed my time as a member of the NCT, and as a volunteer, and I still support the advertising of their sales each year.
